Tyler

We also got to visit my other grandparents (mom's parents) over the hurrication. We were all equally concerned about their beach house in Galveston. My mom and a couple uncles have been able to check on the house - much better than most but still discouraging. The new boat that the entire family had been waiting for about 20 years for my Grandpa to purchase is gone forever. The irony of it all.

So we were in Tyler and got to go to the Tyler Zoo. It was fascinating! It's fun to see how different all the zoos are. I have never been a huge fan, but now that I have a child it is fun to see the exotic creatures through his eyes.

Here is a parrot with beautiful shades of red. Another red bird (forget the name) that looked like flamingos.

There was The Wild Bird Walkabout, a small housing for parakeets and cockatiels, that allowed guests an opportunity to feed the birds a "tweet" of millet. It was fun and a weird sensation. You hold out this stick of food and the birds come sit on your hand and fight over it. Justin was a little freaked out at first. He decided to observe for a little while.

I finally convinced him to give it a try. He was fine as long as the birds didn't land on his hand. Justin & GiGi waiting for G-pa to get the car. Such a serious boy.

The legendary malts. Everytime we would go visit my grandparents my Grandpa would make these awesome malts. I told him I wanted Justin to experience the wonderful experience. Grandpa puts the glasses in the freezer, freezes milk in an ice cube tray, and makes a delicious concoction. Justin sits and watches and waits. Normally the blender at home only holds smoothie, so boy is he in for a great surprise! Justin then got to enjoy his delicious treat - he finished it off with a straw.

Derek went with Justin & Grandpa to Troop Farm to check out the oil pumps out there. The first picture (which are you impressed I got my husband to take pictures with my camera) is of Justin with the pump. Notice he is picking his nose. Nice. Second photo makes me laugh. You can see the Morby/Smith label, and I feel like Justin is wondering if he can figure out the oil and gas industry someday like the rest of the family.

Justin watched Dumbo for the first time. When I say that, he watched the first 5 minutes of the train over and over. He is sitting in a chair that my cousin Carter made in shop class. The second photo is Grandpa reading a pop-up book that he used to read to me and all my cousins. We were scared to death of the crazy creatures that were in that book, and my Grandpa got a silent pleasure out of "scaring" us. Does it look like my son is scared? No, he's too smart for G-pa's antics. He thought the book was so funny. My brother Shane used to almost sob when Grandpa read this book to us.

Cousin Valerie came and played around with Justin. He had a blast being the center of attention.

A picture of all the Morby clan from Tyler: Grandpa/G-pa, me, Clay, Valerie, JT, & grandma/GiGi.

Once again, so thankful that both of Justin's great-grandparents can watch him grow and be a part of his life! Truly a rarity!

No, didn't you hear?? The boat was FOUND! Some guy called Grandpa and the boat was like in his front yard!! It's a miracle. We still don't know how we're going to get it back to our house, though...

And I'm laughing at that picture of Justin watching Dumbo.
"Choo choo? Choo choo?"
"No Justin, let's see what else happens! Look-- an elephant!"
*pausepausepause*
"Choo choo? Choo choo?"
"Okay, we'll rewind. Again."
Aaaaand scene.
