You have got to be kidding me

I have been looking forward to this day for several months. I got a trundle bed with the mattresses off Craiglist in January. The bed has been in bits in pieces in our attic, garage, and study area in our bedroom. It took me about three months to slowly get the bedding, side rails, etc. Then I had to get motivated to move this 35 pound child into a big boy bed. I decided to wait a week after my trip, get used to the jet lag, finish hosting the appetizer leg of our Sunday School class Progressive Dinner last night (totally forgot my camera, so unfortunately no photos of this event), and try on Sunday. So after Justin's nap, Derek takes Justin to the driving range for their weekly father son golf outting. Justin loves it, and apparently hits the ball quite often. They come home, and Derek starts on the bed.

Somewhere in the communication process Derek missed the fact that I had two bed rails for him to put together. He was asked last minute to go to the Rocket's playoff game, but he promised to have the bed finished. In come the side rails. 30 minutes into the project Derek realizes he will barely finish one. So we push the bed to the wall, jerry-rig one side rail, and our son is running in circles of glee. he keeps laying in the bed and telling us "night-night". He even wanted me to turn out the lights and leave, just skipping his bath and entire bedtime routine. Not going to happen.

So we lay in bed, reading books, doing out prayer bucket card, turning out the light and singing songs. As I get up to leave I ask him if he is excited. His lip starts to quiver and he says he wants in his crib! I immediately get flustered. I try to convince him to stay. Then a little voice in my head reminds me that the crib is all this little boy has known, the big boy bed has only been in his room for 2 hours, and we do have the rest of our lives to get this down. So I toss him in his crib and leave for the night. Guess well try again tomorrow.....

This was during the excitement of the evening. Not so much right at bedtime. Like all the stuffed animals pushed by the wall so he wouldn't fall in the cracks? So ghetto.

Ah! The bed and bedding all look so cute! Maybe its best both are in there for now until he gets used to it?! Can't wait until the rest of the room comes together! Just a few things to paint... :)

Ah, Justin and I share the same logic....I, too, slept with a pillow against the wall for a looooong time for fear that I would fall through the crack between the bed and the wall. Also, I had a fear of ET coming up through said crack to "get" me...long story....

Sounds like a great transition! Sweet boy with tears for his crib! He'll get there. Good thinking, not going cold turkey! Bedding looks adorable.

No worries before long that crib will be ancient history, and like you said he has a lifetime of nights in the big boy bed coming. At least he was temporarily excited!! And I'm pretty sure his 35 lbs would have a hard time slipping through the crack :)
