Holy Cross Christmas Program

Justin is not going to be the family performer. I'm over it before it even began. Justin sang every song of his production to Brooks, Wendi, and myself an hour before school started. I just knew this year he would be his usual social self. We talked on the way to school about how he needed to sing when the teachers asked him to, unlike last year's display of shyness/disobedience/just plain 2 year old. So imagine my surprise when the 2 1/2 year old class marched in with their sheep costumes on their heads to be a part of the nativity scene, and one little was not in costume. I was told that his teachers tried three times to get him to put it on. I think he knew how silly it looked, though the issue of not obeying his teachers was later addressed.

It's not hard to find my son in the sea of shepherds, angels, and sheep. He's the one without a costume on his head, remember?

Luke Pine's grandfather did me a favor and shot some photos for me since I didn't have a zoom lens and was going to sit far away as to not distract my son from performing. After seeing his choice of no costume and the fact that he never opened his mouth, I then ran to the front and sat down with the other camera crazy moms and started shooting away. He kept looking for me and Derek in the audience, so hiding wasn't doing me any good. See this smirk at the end - I think he knew what he was doing. Like I said, I'm over it.

My usually chipper boy perked up when we went to sing Happy Birthday to Jesus after the show. His buddy Braden got the honors of sitting next to him.

We love our cake.

I didn't think about wearing a Christmas color for the program - probably would have helped to wear something other than bright orange.

We then rang some bells and sang several Christmas carols. I have to got to break this boy of his "slit eyes" smiles he has started sporting lately.

The teacher was singing "Come on Ring those Bells" by Amy grant, so it's no wonder the kids didn't know the words.

We then went back to class where each child received a gift from their teacher. We then gave our perfunctory hug to Mrs. Winkler then told the school that we would see everyone in January.

I am so thankful that this sweet school kept so much of the focus of the season on baby Jesus. Justin came home with so many new songs this past month. I love how the heart of this school is about teaching our kids about the Lord. I wish we could stay in this environment a lot longer!
