Leaves & a kite

Could it be that I am finally editing my own photos for this new year? And to think that I had a draft for a post for the entire month of January. Impossible for this blogger! I think one of the reasons I always have so many photos is that once I have spent a certain amount of time editing a photo, I feel a kinship to that photo. And if I don't post it on the blog then why did I even bother with it!

Moving on. One of the laidback weekends in January Derek swept the leaves into a pile at the edge of the slide. That made for some fun times.

My still-in-jammies clad son thought this was a real treat.

The photos don't do the slow motion slide that Justin insisted on doing any justice. It would take him so long to finally fall into the leaves.

You would think this was a great shot I caught in motion, but I'm telling you, he was moving so slow.

Even the big boy gave it a go.

Later on in the day we decided to try out the new kite Justin got for Christmas. I was just certain that there was enough wind for the kite.

Unfortunately, it took quite a bit of effort to get this bad boy off the ground.

At least Derek had himself a good helper.

I learned something new about my husband that day. He had never flown a kite before!

He did a fine job, though there was quite a bit of coaching from the peanut section. Didn't effect the pure joy of this little man running around.

There were brief moments of time where the kite stayed up in the air.

We would all just smile and watch it glide.

And then it would slowly start towards the ground again.

Justin even tried it for a brief run.

Then ole momma, apparently the kite-flying veteran, decided to "show her men how it was done." I grew up in a family of kite flyers, if you should know.

So Derek decided to photograph this momentous feat.

It lasted about 10 seconds. And yes, fellow First Woodway churchgoers, I am wearing a Chi Alpha shirt from 1992.

Oh well. If only we had gone on a night such as tonight, where the wind is howling through my windows. Justin had a blast, which meant the outting was a success.

It almost breaks my heart when I see how old he looks in this photo. Lightning McQueen hoodie and all.

In the words of ole Mary, "Let's go fly a kite!"
