Memorial Day Weekend '11

Memorial Day weekend ended up being a lot of fun.  We last minute chose not to go to Galveston and instead stayed in Houston.  Friday night we went to Afton Village pool and jumped off the diving board as many times as possible.

This has been the summer of the Canon Ball

Sunday evening we had over all our immediate neighbors.  All but one live on our street, with the other living right behind us (that you can see over the fence).  There were people who have lived here 18, 15, 12, and 10 years and had never met the other neighbors!  I am so thankful the Lord spurred us on to host everyone in our backyard so that we can know our neighbors!

What's a Michaelis party without some cookie cake?!

We had such a great time of fellowship and getting everyone to know each other.  I am thankful that we finally just did this - it's such a blessing to be able to know and love on your neighbors.  Our mission field is right in our backyard.  We love our wonderful neighbors!

Memorial day we picked up Jaylen, our fellow from Yellowstone Academy, and headed to Afton Village pool again.

Ironically Jaylen had been swimming by himself at his own apartment pool when we picked him up.  he said he wanted to go swimming so after lunch this is what we did.  But he didn't want to be anywhere where he couldn't swim because he couldn't really swim.  So we stayed in the shallow end the entire time.  Lord, protect this sweet boy when he is in a pool by himself unattended!

Derek is so great with Jaylen - he truly has a heart for this situation.

It was precious watching Jaylen swing on the swingset before we left.

I love this photo

If I haven't said it enough, Houstonians need to go get involved with Yellowstone.  It will change you permanently!  As well as change the heart of a child just yearning for relational love that looks like Christ.
