Randomness

Sycamore Stirrings is a fun blog I have added to my google reader. She does Muffin Tin Mondays every week and shows pictures from different moms that show how they put different food items in muffin tin holders for their kids' meals. This Monday was a breakfast challenge. Go to the site to check out other options, but I just thought it was such a cute idea for something different. At least with my child, it is all about the presentation. Here's a pic from one of the other bloggers.

Also on her blog she talked about pie in a jar. For all you Betty Crockers out there, this looked like a fun alternative to making a regular cherry pie. There are instructions here and here.

And on a dental note, I saw these ice cubes and thought this would be a great "ice breaker" to a party. How grossed out would you be if you saw these in a glass? I think it's hilarious and just might have to order me some.

Smoothies

Those of you that are around Justin a lot know of his nonstop addiction to smoothies. You might think that I cater to this craving. We have tried to go without when we go out-of-town, vacation, etc. But Justin would just get his pipes all plugged up and be miserabley constipated. Yes I said it. So I try to find variations from the homemade ones that I make. There are the individually packaged ones from any grocery store, but those are pricey and have a lot of sugar. I stumbled upon a jumbo bag of "just add milk" Yoplait Smoothie mix from Costco. It was just too easy. I used my skim milk so that I could have some too. It had strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and frozen yogurt pieces. Just added 1 1/2 cups of milk and blended it up. Justin doesn't normally love the purple smoothies, probably b/c their are too many berries in the flavoring.

It was delicious and came with about 10 packages for $10. But in case you want to try the homemade version, here's the recipe I still make a few times a week.

Justin's Smoothies

1 c. milk

1 c. Diet V8 Splash (3 g. carbs vs. 27 on the nondiet; gives you all the veggie vitamins)

1-2 bananas

3 T. yogurt

Handfull of frozen fruit - I get strawberries, pineapples, mango assortments

Blend in the blender and have a straw ready.
