New Orleans

Way overdue post, #1. I had my first Mother's Day Out where I had nothing on the calendar. Too bad it took 9 months for that to happen, since next year is the last week of school. But I think I am starting to catch myself up to current times on the blog, starting with this one.

In March, Derek and I went to New Orleans for a quick 36 hour trip for his boss's wedding. I've never been to New Orleans before - interesting, to say the least. Don't think I'll be planning a trip there anytime soon, but it was nice to visit another part of the country I had only driven past and never stopped to look at.

You can get beer and mixed drinks to go. You just walk up to any restaurant bar or just a drink pit stop and then walk around town with your to-go cup of brew. Classy. There were mango daiquiri places everywhere - must be their drink of choice.

We walked to the river where the classier shops and digs were.

We got some chocolate balls from a praline shop. If I had known they were solid chocolate then I might have only gotten one.

They were awesome and kind of made me day.

An apartment complex in the French Quarter. We were fortunate to stay in the French Quarter, but if only I had known not to walk through Bourbon Street as my first touristy experience.

A pretty church near the river.

Photos from the wedding in the next post.
