Popcorn, puppies, and promises of better photos

So behind on the blog, but what can you do. I truly think God has slowly removed my desire to be on the internet as much these days. Trying to get me in a quieter frame of mind for some reason. I love checking my email, but when it comes to replying to one, uploading photos to the blog, or even checking google reader, I just don't have it in me these days. Maybe it's just the laziness of the summer (or business, whichever you would prefer), or just becoming more kingdom minded. Nonetheless, here are a some random photos thrown in together.

It's finally been raining in Houston! So we are prepared as we are looking out the window for the next storm.

But it's not always raining when we decide to wait for it.

I found these popcorn photos from awhile back when my parents were in town one weekend. My mom brought her old timey popcorn making machine. Growing up I despised this thing1 While neighbor Johnny got his microwave buttery popcorn, my mom was putting kernels in this machine and putting only a touch of butter at the end. Made for a rather bland (yet healthy) snack. Justin had a blast popping off the kernels...

...and putting them in the machine. He loved the snack. I think I probably sneered at it once again.

So I got a new camera right after my dad's Starburst tournament. My buddy Erin's husband had a friend getting rid of a full frame Canon camera body. Basically, my Canon Rebel had a crop factor, which made the image more zoomed in and harder to get a group photo with my trusty 50mm/f1.4 lens. So I upgraded to a Canon 5D. The new image quality is stunning. I even have become lazy on random days and will shoot on automatic just to capture the moment! Gasp!

Look at the crispness of Roxy-loo's eyes, and the bokeh (blur) of the background. So money.

Miss Kitty, the neighborhood stray cat, came over during my shoot and yawned while I took her photo. Looks like a rabid animal, does she not?

The night I got my camera I made Derek help me try out the new camera body. We went to Cafe Ruggles after a nice meal at Hugo's for dessert. I still had traces of pink eye (code for no makeup), but if you zoom into my eye then you can see each individual eyelash.

Here I am "jumping for joy" with the new camera. Remake for Chariot's of Fire, anyone?

We went to Rice after Cafe Ruggles, where I took photos of Derek by the archway where no undergrad is allowed to cross under until after they graduate. We never took photos of him here, and after much pleading, he finally bucked up for a few shots.

So proud of my hard workin' man who not only played two sports at Rice but still managed to graduate while playing minor league baseball. A huge feat now that we are out of the minors (and we watch others still struggling to find their next career path).

The way I positioned him he somewhat looks like go-go Gadget appendages.

Ironically, with the new camera purchase has come some apathy on photo editing. I am beginning to become overwhelmed with all I have been learning, so I think my brain needs a break. So great, unedited photos will be coming your way on the blog. When that will be, who knows?

I'm laughing! Great post for many reasons. You cropped one of my favorite pictures of you at Rice! I'm starting to covet the camera. I need time away from it and your photos. Did you see that Kelly on KK uses the same camera? Her pics are great!

All I can think of is the rest of you from Rice, I don't know why you wouldn't want that on your blog :)

Love the rain boot pics of J
