Starburst Golf Tournament

My dad's Starburst Golf Tournament. He started this thing 11 years ago when he realized the need in Central Texas for a golf tournament for young golfers. Just like he started the golf program at Midway Junior High when my brothers didn't have their favorite sport at their school. My dad the organizer - I truly am so proud of him on the success of this tournament. Though he would never brag about it, this is now the largest junior golf tournament in the world. That's right, the world. So kuddos to all the hard workers that help make this week such a success.

Adidas is the clothing sponsor for the tournament, which means awesome shirts to help with the sweating.

The head golf course is at Cottonwood, where Josh and his crew take care of everyone in the pro shop.

You might remember me saying that I was the photographer for this event. A lot of my faves are here on the tourney website. Justin had gotten a hold of a golf cart while he was staying with my parents during our Destin trip. He crashed into this shrubbery, permanently maiming the bush.

If you look closely then you'll see the tee in the air.

They gave out these cool one strap side shoulder bags to all the applicants.

We brought the little man's clubs so he could practice with his father,

Starburst logos on everything.

My help on Sunday, though someone really wanted his momma all day.

Me and my man

Maggie and Tamara - Maggie used to help my dad with the Brazos River Festival Fun Run back in the day. She and my dad used to work at Texas Farm Bureau for years. She makes the BEST chocolate cakes!

Scott Eskew finally found himself a woman. Such a sweetie! Heard so much about her, so it was nice to finally meet her.

There's free food all week long, starting with Fuddruckers hot dogs on Sunday. I ate three of them! The buns are amazing - just like the ones for the burgers.

My mom, Shane, & Kaki all worked in the store selling gobs of clothes.

Aaron, Brad, LeeAnn, Hilary, & Elise. All the volunteers got T-shirts on Sunday for registration. The other days we got official Adidas climacool shirts - pretty snazzy.

Shane & Kaki modeling the Monday attire. Please notice the color of my brother's pants!

Aaron & Elise watched Justin the first evening while mommy "worked".

This is the only kid I'll show you on the blog. I met Zach and his parents when I was at one of the courses Monday morning. Zach has a rare disease that doesn't allow him to sweat. Thanks to all the cool clothing these days, and his parents keeping him hydrated, he can try to play golf and feel like a normal kid. He is missing some of his teeth as part of the Ectodermal Dysplasias. My hygienist heart just went right out to him. Thy are putting on a golf tournament in Houston in August (hot, but when is it not in August?). All you Houstonians should check it out since it's for a good cause. http://dontsweatitgolf.com/

Everyone awaiting their instructions before the shotgun start,

I like the dirt in the air on this shot.

Outback served burgers one night...

...and Rosati's served pizza and pasta the next night. It's free for all the golfers, volunteers, and family members. Sign up next year if you are interested in February - registration only fills up within hours!

Music one evening.

Justin loved listening to the tunes.

And someone really likes canned water! I can't stand it - tastes like aluminum. I guess he feels like he is drinking a coke, since he doesn't like anything carbonated,

Tuesday night is the infamous helicopter ball drop. The crowds buy a numbered golf ball in hopes that it is dropped in the hole to win $2500.

Kaki and Justin watching the 'copter.

The Baylor softball coach and his son are the ones that drop the many buckets of balls down into the hole.

Lots and lots of balls, as Justin would say. My zoom lens really captured the moment better this year than last.

I was playing with sunbeams and thought the lighting was interesting on this little kid.

Justin wrestling with my dad.

The winning ball- didn't fall in but was one of the 7 that did on the first round of droppings.

Me with the sis-in-laws - beat from a long day of work!

Aaron, dad, & Shane

Great job, Chamber of Commerce, on yet another fantastic tournament! Many, many thanks to my in-laws who not only housed Justin and I but kept him round the clock while I worked form 9am-1opm each day. And that was with the sleeping nightmares as well. I was exhausted but was excited to have been able to help my dad out in such an important part of the week - capturing the moment! Love you dad....
