Baylor and Rice

When I showed up on my blog I was totally wishing that someone had already written my posts for me.  Ah yes, my blog remained untouched for what seems like the last month.  Time to get on with it.

September, that lovely month that marks the beginning of fall.  Baylor football came into town to play the Rice Owls and with it brought Birdie and Papa.  Ironically, Derek had a trip planned to Chicago that weekend for about 10 months now and had to miss the fun.  He was Chicago Cubbing it with his family while we footballed it down in Houston.

We had a community group event at our home the weekend before and this was the only photo I had from the event.  Thought it made for a good transition into the green and gold weekend of this post.

I went on a walk Saturday morning and casually walked by the garage sale that was taking place one street over.  $22 later I came home with a few items, one of which is this air hockey table.  Yes, it's large and the air doesn't come through the pockets very well, but Justin loves the bargain!

Apparently on the walk that my parents and Justin went on everyone noticed all the pumpkin in the yards...except for ours.  So I quickly put pumpkins all over the house and yard with my anal decorator by my side, aka JT.  He had an opinion about where everything should go.  Where does he get this?

We all took a good nap and then headed over to the Rice football stadium.  Mom said Justin could pick the tailgate meal, so Chick-til-A, as we fondly call it, it was.

Nothing like a nugget full of goodness.

Thankfully Birdie brought the football for some entertainment.

It so happened to be Parents' Weekend at Rice, so there were bounce houses, face painting, and all sorts of activity to be found.  When I first looked at this photo I did a double take, not remembering we were posing.  It was like one of those dreams where you are in public and are only wearing underwear.  That double take.

Justin was off and running with the other Rice Owlets.

Before you tell me my son should have worn some navy and gray as well, my defense is that daddy was away and grandparents + mommy = green.  End of story.  We did give him the option...we just informed him what team we would be cheering for.

We started to walk into the stadium when we bumped into some fellow Baylor fans.   The Browns were all ready to go in their BU gear as well.

Justin loved every bit of the football game.

It was electrifying for him.  The more the crowd cheered, the farther down the risers he tried to stand.

He turns into a dog with rabies.  We are all so shameless - both my mom, Derek, and myself keep telling Justin how you get hurt in football.  He doesn't even care.  I am afraid that if he can carry a ball, and continue to grow in the same body build, that we might loose him to the "other" sport.  I guess Daddy is partial to his baseball and basketball.  I tell him that the kicker is a great position.  Wink wink.

And before you tell me that I am trying to run the world for my son, give me a break.  He is the only kid his age not in organized sports, and we don't even care if he never plays a day of sports in his life.

But still, a kicker is the best position in football...

The child never sat down until I made him at times.  He would hang onto strangers' shoulders to get a better view of the game.  Lately, when he watches football at home with his father, he will pick a team (we ALL have to choose a team that we are cheering for) and yell and scream when they make a great play.  Maybe he can play fantasy football.  Now we're talking!

Sic 'Em

We managed to sit with the Browns, a mere 5 rows up, the 2nd quarter of the game.

Then it started to rain.  So we had a delay.  I did my best to wipe off the sweat on our faces in photoshop - a little too well in places.  Trust me, you didn't want to see it.

That good ole Baylor Line was being played as we walked out.

The band was playing at full maximum capacity as we tried to sneak out.  It was a mad house.

Thankfully we got to the car a mere minute before the bottom of the sky dropped out.  I am thankful we went home - the game finally finished at 11:30pm!  And the Bears won - one of the many of this year's season!  Go Bears!  Go Bowl Game!

What? Kicker is not the best position!!!! Kicker is the worst! How terrible would it be to be the guy everybody hates because he kicks wide and loses the game when all we needed was one point to win??? :)

Best position--QB followed by Left Tackle, which is the 2nd highest paid position in the NFL. Didn't you watch BlindSide??? :)

Kidding. But seriously---you had some AWESOME photography work in this post! and I laughed out LOUD at the one of you and Snuff. hilarious.

Uncle Shane and Uncle Aaron loved Flag Football. That seemed to satisfy their taste for football....did not hurt we were undefeated! Dad
